Golden Bean North America Coffee Roasters Competition

Happyrock Coffee Takes Awards at Coffee Roasting Competition!!!

Happyrock Coffee's Blog

This weekend was the inaugural Golden Bean North America. The Golden Bean is a coffee roasters competition that is usually held in Australia. I had seen their ads in a few trade magazines.

Are You The Best Coffee Roaster In North America? Are You The Best Coffee Roaster In North America?

This is a huge question. Are you the best coffee roaster in North America? North America is a huge place with many coffee roasters. It includes the United States as well as Canada. So I decided to go for it.

Hello, My Name Is Lisa Hello, My Name Is Lisa

This was a blind taste test. They assured me each coffee would get its own code and go to a panel of judges over the course of 3 days. Judges drank many coffees over many hours during those three days. There were National and International Coffee celebrities here, previous Golden Bean winners, World Barista Cup winners, and me and my teeny tiny coffee…

River Intake Pump Station (RIPS)- Demolition Now Complete!

from the Lake Oswego Tigard Water Partnership Newsletter
“River Intake Pump Station (RIPS) – demolition now complete!
A significant milestone was reached earlier this week with the last piece of the old intake removed from the river! Divers worked with the crane operator and crews to remove the bottom levels of the intake, and said farewell to the old structure.
This week, crews also removed the stair tower and disassembled the turbidity curtain. Early next week, the large red crane will be removed from the site.
With demolition complete, this marks the beginning of the site restoration. Over the coming weeks, crews will begin preparing for curb placement, asphalt removal, stone column installation and final landscaping.
Thank you to Gladstone, West Linn, Lake Oswego and Tigard mayors for attending a special tour of the new RIPS this week!
In observance of Labor Day, no work will take place Monday, September 7.

Firefighters back from Canyon Creek Complex: “It was just heartbreaking”

Posted: Aug 21, 2015 10:47 PM PDT Updated: Aug 21, 2015 11:14 PM PDT

By Kelsey WattsCONNECT

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) –
Fourteen firefighters from a Clackamas County Task Force just returned home Thursday, after spending six days deployed at the Canyon Creek Complex near John Day.

The fire was more than 60,000 acres, threatening more than 700 structures and only 13 percent contained as of Friday night.
It also turned 30 homes to ash.
“The absolute destruction – there’d be a few houses and then there’d be one standing, and then there’d be a few more burned, and no rhyme or reason as to why some were saved and some weren’t,” said task force leader Todd Gary of Canby Fire.
Firefighting task forces can be called in any time local crews are overwhelmed and life or property is on the line, provided the Governor signs off on the extra help.
Where they come from and the resources they bring varies depending on the needs of each fire.

Last Friday afternoon, Gary and 13 others in his task force – four from Gladstone Fire, two from Sandy Fire, two from Molalla Fire, two from Portland Fire, three from Clackamas Fire – got the call to pack up and go.

From the Lake Oswego Tigard Partnership newsletter:
River Intake Pump Station (RIPS) – demolition almost complete!
The old intake is disappearing before our eyes! Crews have been focused on sawcutting and removing large pieces of concrete slabs and walls using a wire saw. Concrete is then lifted out by the crane and removed offsite to be recycled. Soon, divers will be working in the water to remove the bottom levels of the existing intake.
Demolition is on track forcompletion by early September. After demolition, the area will be landscaped and repaved.
The RIPS contractor is working Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., and occasional Saturdays.
